Bachelor of Happiness

I study a Bachelor of Marketing and Communication at the University of South Australia. For the most part I really enjoy it. This tumbl-log is a collection of quotes, sayings, models, graphs and generally uni-related content from my degree to remind me on those not so great days that I do enjoy study and that I am looking forward to having a career.

Sony Bravia Bouncy Balls Ad

Another example of Weak theory. I think this actually generated more sales for Jose Gonzalez than Bravia & that has to do with branding…. which I learn about next week, or something.

Carlton Draught’s Very Big Ad

Another classic example of Weak Theory. Once again, does not look to be informative, it’s very much so about the creative publicity. This has been a very successful ad.

Cadbury Gorilla Ad

Text book example of Weak Theory in practice, one of only three ads that my lecturers talk about as being xxAMAZINGxx.

Weak theory relates to the ATR model:

  • Awareness
  • Trial
  • Retention

And is seen as creative publicity. It is said to be understated, quirky, indirect, have unusual visual effects or humor… and is shown to have the greatest effect. It doesn’t hard sell. It doesn’t look to be informative, it looks to create cues and reinforce positive attitudes held by consumers as well as increase salience.
